TikTok co-founder Zhang Yiming, 43, has surpassed Indian tycoon Gautam Adani to claim the title of Asia’s wealthiest person.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Zhang’s fortune — built through his stake in TikTok’s parent company ByteDance — has climbed to $105.5 billion, edging past Adani’s $104.8 billion.

Zhang’s wealth has grown more than eightfold since March 2019, when it stood at just $13 billion. In September alone, his net worth surged by $12 billion after major investment firms including BlackRock, Fidelity Investments, and T. Rowe Price revalued ByteDance upward.

Beyond TikTok, ByteDance has been aggressively expanding into artificial intelligence, with products such as the “Doubao” chatbot and “Seedance” video-generation tool driving further growth.

Adani, meanwhile, has seen his fortune slip from around $120 billion in June, weighed down by stock market volatility, rising oil prices, and higher bond yields putting pressure on his business empire.

Zhang’s rise to the top comes after years of navigating legal challenges and uncertainty surrounding TikTok’s operations in the United States — obstacles that have done little to slow the company’s underlying momentum.
