The Iranian Ambassador to Sri Lanka has strongly criticized and responded to remarks made by former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed in support of the ongoing protests in Iran.
In a post on X, President Nasheed stated that the Iranian people have taken to the streets against tyranny and rising costs, emphasizing that the international community should stand with the citizens rather than the government.
Responding to this, the Iranian Embassy in Sri Lanka stated that the unrest is a plot designed to plunge the country into chaos following inhumane attacks carried out by Israel and the US against Iran in June 2025. The Embassy further questioned which side Nasheed stands on at a time when Mossad-linked terrorists are damaging mosques and public spaces and killing many people.
While over 116 people have died in these protests, which have been ongoing for more than two weeks, US President Trump has warned of intervention. However, Iran has asserted that if the US attacks, they will retaliate against both Israel and the America.
