With the continued progress of the Maldives’ tourism industry, tourist arrivals to the country this year have exceeded 200,000, representing growth compared to last year, according to Tourism Ministry statistics. Based on information released by the Ministry, by Wednesday evening, a total of 200,801 tourists had visited the Maldives. This represents a 3.9% increase compared to the 193,174 tourists who visited during the same period in 2023. Statistics show that an average of 7,171 tourists per day have arrived in the Maldives this year so far.
Looking at individual markets, Russia is currently sending the most tourists to the Maldives, with 26,965 arrivals. Italy ranks second with 21,137 tourists, while China is third with 18,531 visitors. Other countries in the top ten include the United Kingdom, Germany, India, France, the United States, Poland, and Kazakhstan. India currently ranks sixth with 7,564 tourists.
Regarding entry points, most tourists have entered the Maldives through Velana International Airport, with 198,329 arrivals. Among regional airports, Maafaru Airport received 714 tourists, Gan Airport 599, Hanimaadhoo Airport 563, Maamigili Airport 359, and Dhaalu Airport 237 tourists.
Looking at where tourists chose to spend their holidays, resorts remain the most popular option, with 138,166 tourists staying at resorts. Guesthouses hosted 52,984 tourists, hotels 5,358, and safari vessels 4,112. Currently, the Maldives operates 179 resorts, 899 guesthouses, 173 safari vessels, and 16 tourist hotels to serve visitors, with a total of 66,854 beds available, according to the Tourism Ministry.
