The Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMBC) has announced that the registration of all newspapers and magazines that fail to re-register by October 27 will be cancelled.
In an announcement issued today, the Commission stated that under Article 34(a) of the Newspaper and Magazine Registration Regulation (2026/R-27) — established under Law No. 16/2025 — all newspapers and magazines registered under the previous Law No. 47/78 are required to re-register within six months. The announcement noted that the final deadline for this period falls on October 27, 2026.
The Commission further stated that the registrations of newspapers and magazines that do not update their records within the specified period will be cancelled in accordance with the regulation. MMBC has therefore called on the responsible parties of all newspapers and magazines to complete this process within the given timeframe.
