“Exercise Dosti-17,” conducted jointly by the Coast Guards of the Maldives, India, and Sri Lanka, has been officially inaugurated. Defense Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon launched the training at a special ceremony held at Hotel Jen. Speaking at the ceremony, Chief of Defense Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy stated that this activity is essential for ensuring regional safety and security.
Started 33 years ago in 1991 between the Maldives and India, the training evolved into a major trilateral event with Sri Lanka’s participation in 2012. Hilmy highlighted that these exercises increase professional respect and trust among the Coast Guards, paving the way for joint operations during emergencies.
Held every two years, this exercise will mainly focus on search and rescue, marine pollution control, and boarding operations. It serves as a crucial opportunity for the three nations to prepare together to face maritime challenges amidst the changing dynamics of the Indian Ocean region.
