Today’s Friday sermon reminded us that the magnificent journey of Isra and Mi’raj is one of the most instructive events in Islamic history, and that it was a great reward granted by Allah to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) for his patience.
In today’s Friday sermon, dedicated to the topic “Lessons from Isra and Mi’raj,” it was stated that Allah ordained the journey of Isra and Mi’raj at a time when the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was facing immense grief. That period, marked as the “Year of Sorrow” (*’Aam al-Huzn*), was a time when his uncle Abu Talib, who stood in his defense, and his beloved wife Khadijah passed away, in addition to the severe persecution he faced from the people of Ta’if. However, as a result of the patience displayed by the Prophet (PBUH) and his complete reliance (*Tawakkul*) on Allah, Allah granted him comfort, ascended him above the seven heavens, and bestowed greatness upon him.
Highlighting the importance of this journey, the sermon noted that Allah took His Messenger from Al-Masjid al-Haram to Al-Masjid al-Aqsa, and from there to *Sidrat al-Muntaha*. There, Allah showed him great signs of His divine power.
**The Greatness of Prayer**
The sermon stated that the greatest gift received from this event was the five daily prayers. While all other acts of worship were revealed through the Angel Jibril, the prayer was made obligatory by Allah directly addressing His Messenger without any intermediary. This signifies the importance of the connection between the believer and Allah.
Therefore, the sermon advised performing this noble act of worship on time and with *Khushu’* (humility and focus). The verses of the Holy Quran have revealed that the successful ones are those who are humble and submissive in their prayers.
The greatest lesson from this event is that patience during difficulties and calamities brings about Allah’s victory and aid, and that prayer is the most important duty among Muslims.
