President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has assured that the Eagle Hills economic project planned for Ras Male’ will not affect the government’s plans to provide social housing on the island.

Speaking on the Nation Chat programme in response to concerns over delays, the President said the project had faced challenges common to large-scale developments, but these had been resolved and work is now progressing quickly.

According to the President, about 70 percent of the 1,100-hectare reclamation has been completed, with the remaining work expected to finish within two to three months. He described the newly created land as a major economic asset for the nation.

The President also assured that no land plots or flat projects allocated to the public would be cancelled, noting that Ras Male’ has enough land for both plots and flats. With application forms currently under review, some categories may be granted plots in full, he added.

He said the decision to allow a foreign company to invest in Ras Male’ was aimed at speeding up the island’s overall development, and that the project would create jobs and business opportunities for citizens.

The full development of Ras Male’ is planned over 10 years. Once reclamation is complete, the government aims to begin utility works early next year. Developed as an environmentally friendly, carbon-neutral smart city, Ras Male’ is expected to provide 65,000 housing units, according to the government.
