All Powers Concentrated in Muizzu’s Hands; Government Has Turned Authoritarian: Yameen

Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has declared that under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration, the constitutional system of separation of powers has been dismantled, with all authority consolidated into the President’s hands, transforming the government into a fully authoritarian regime.

Speaking at the “Green Signal” rally organized by the People’s National Front (PNF) on Thursday night at the Artificial Beach area, President Yameen stated that even the Elections Commission — designated as an independent institution under the Constitution — has now come under President Muizzu’s control, to the extent that he personally appoints individuals of his own choosing to the commission. He noted that these actions are part of an effort to secure a second term in office.

Yameen highlighted that while ordinary citizens are becoming increasingly impoverished, a select few are amassing extraordinary wealth, and that land is being distributed in ways that grant undue benefits to a chosen group. He also emphasized that the public is deeply concerned and outraged over the ongoing acts of corruption in the country.

Declaring President Muizzu to be the first leader to have disregarded the Green Constitution ratified in 2008, Yameen stated that the state’s independent institutions have completely failed. Although political figures are disheartened by the government’s control over all branches of power, he called on everyone to unite and stand together to bring the nation back on the right course.
