The Maldives received 184,735 tourists this past July, a 1.9 percent decline compared to July of last year.
According to Tourism Ministry statistics, 188,304 tourists visited the Maldives in July last year. While tourist numbers in the first two months of this year were at record levels, arrivals have been lower every month from March through June compared to the same months last year. In January, 227,403 tourists visited, rising to 254,556 in February. However, the numbers dropped to 166,616 in March, 152,861 in April, 142,555 in May, and 125,891 in June.
So far this year, more than 1.2 million tourists have visited the Maldives, with China being the largest source market. Tourism Ministry statistics show that 73.1 percent of tourists arriving in the Maldives spend their holidays at resorts, while 22.5 percent stay at guesthouses.
