Raouf, Shafiu appointed High Court judges, swearing-in tonight

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to appoint Al-Ustaz Abdur Raouf Ibrahim, who previously worked at the High Court, and Criminal Court Judge Al-Ustaz Ismail Shafiu to the position of judges of the High Court of the Maldives. 19 individuals applied for the opportunity to apply for High Court judgeship, and the Commission selected these two individuals from among them.

In addition to the two judges appointed to the High Court, JSC has also decided to appoint Al-Ustaz Ahmed Niyaz, Chief Magistrate of L. Kalaidhoo Magistrate Court, to the vacant position of judge at the Criminal Court. The special ceremony for the newly appointed judges to take oath of office and be presented with their certificates is scheduled to be held tonight at the Supreme Court.

The two positions at the High Court bench became vacant when Judge Al-Ustaz Mohamed Niyaz, who served at the court for a long period, retired, and Judge Al-Ustaz Mohamed Faisal resigned. Similarly, a judge position at the Criminal Court became vacant when Judge Hussain Faiz Rashad was removed from office, and with the newly appointed judges, it is believed that the work of these courts will run more smoothly.
