The Government of Bangladesh has revoked its previous decision to suspend on-arrival visa services for the country’s upcoming parliamentary election next month.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives had previously disclosed that, in connection with the general election scheduled for February 12, Bangladesh had decided to halt the issuance of on-arrival visas from January 15 to February 15. However, in a statement issued today, the Ministry confirmed that the Bangladeshi government has officially communicated the withdrawal of that decision.
With this amendment, Maldivians traveling to Bangladesh will continue to enjoy the convenience of on-arrival visas without any difficulty, just as before. This serves as a significant relief for Maldivians visiting the country for medical treatment and other purposes.
The election taking place next month is the first general election to be held since the collapse of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s administration following intense student protests. Although Hasina resigned after major unrest and is currently residing in India under protection, this election—held at a time when she faces numerous charges—is politically critical for the nation.
