Cold cases decrease while Dengue and Influenza rise

According to the latest statistics released by the Health Ministry, the number of people consulting doctors for the common cold rose above 28,000 during the past December. However, this is a relatively lower number compared to the previous month of November. Statistics show that while 32,859 people reported sick in November, 28,619 cases were reported in December. The Ministry also notes that compared to last year, the number of reported cases so far this year is lower.

In addition to the common cold, the number of reported cases of diarrhea and vomiting also decreased last month. Specifically, while 4,102 people consulted doctors for this illness in November, this number dropped to 2,931 in December.

Although the numbers for the common cold and diarrhea decreased, a cause for concern is that the number of people with Dengue fever and Influenza increased in December. Statistics show that while 382 people contracted Dengue in November, this number increased to 413 in December. Additionally, the number of people testing positive for Influenza rose to 152 in December, after being at 121 in November. Ministry figures show that out of a total of 4,407 people tested for Influenza last year, 1,270 tested positive.
