Although last year the Maldives surpassed the two million tourist mark for the first time in history, this year’s record has already been broken. According to Tourism Ministry statistics, as of last Wednesday, 2,080,134 tourists have visited the Maldives, surpassing last year’s record of 2,046,615.

With an average of 6,453 tourists arriving daily during the first nine days of December, the government’s target of 2.2 million is expected to be achieved by the end of this month. China remains the top source market this year as well, with 318,032 tourists.

Russia ranks second, and the United Kingdom ranks third.
