Alamgiri cases: Police permits two suspects to go to Umrah

Two individuals suspected of engaging in homosexuality have been permitted by the police to go to Umrah.

A string of videos showing men engage in sexual relations with Bangladeshi sex worker, Alamgiri, has been leaked from June onwards.

In an earlier statement, Police have stated that cases pertaining to homosexuality are being investigated as serious matters. Some of the men in the video has been identified following which travel ban orders have been obtained against them.

A Police Spokesperson confirmed  on Wednesday that two suspects that have been banned from travelling have been granted temporary permits to travel in order to perform Umrah pilgrimage as the arrangements had been made much earlier.

Bangladesh sex worker Alamgiri, accused of engaging in sexual relations with many men, and videotaping, currently remain in police custody.

Prominent lawyer and Parliament Speaker’s Mohamed Nasheed’s younger brother Nazim Sattar, a police officer working in the Drug Enforcement Department, Abdul Rahman Rafeeu and former Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed (Colonel Nasheed) have also been arrested for engaging in sexual relations with Alamgiri.
