The Infrastructure Ministry today awarded Rotime Engineering and Technology Co. Ltd the contract to widen part of the Addu Link Road to four lanes.

Under the design-and-build project, a 12.3km stretch from the D2 Bridge to Hithadhoo Stadium will be redeveloped. Infrastructure Minister Dr. Abdulla Muththalib signed the agreement on behalf of the government, while Managing Director Zhu Weidong signed for the company. The project’s cost has not been disclosed.

In April last year, the Road Development Corporation (RDC) was also contracted to upgrade the Addu Link Road and its connecting roads. That MVR 829.8 million project covers asphalting or paving 67.58km of roads and building a drainage system in Feydhoo, with a completion period of three years and nine months.

The link road connecting Addu’s islands was originally built between 2001 and 2003, financed by a USD 7.9 million loan from the Islamic Development Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
