Trump bars CNN, MSNBC, Politico from White House

US President Donald Trump has banned several major media outlets critical of his administration — CNN, MS NOW, and Politico — from entering the White House.

In a post on his own social media platform Truth Social on Friday, Trump said he was closing off White House access to these three outlets because they were spreading false news about his administration. However, he did not provide any evidence to support these allegations.

CNN has expressed concern, calling the decision an unlawful attack on press freedom, and has begun preparing to take the matter to court. Politico also stated that it would continue to report on government actions fairly. Despite the announcement, journalists from both outlets continued operating at the White House, and a CNN team participated in an event held in Iowa with Vice President JD Vance.

Jacqui Heinrich, President of the White House Correspondents’ Association, said this was not merely a journalists’ issue, but a blow to the public’s right to scrutinize government policies.

Since taking office for his second term in January 2025, Trump has changed numerous press protocols and taken actions such as sanctioning the Associated Press over its use of the name “Gulf of Mexico.” Trump indicated that more media outlets could be added to this list in the future.
