Police have launched an investigation into an alleged case of physical and psychological abuse of a young boy on an island in the north of the Maldives.

A video circulating on social media shows the child being held down in various positions and subjected to abuse, as well as being forced to apologize. The child can also be seen crying in the footage.

A Police Media Official said the case was reported to police yesterday, and the investigation is being carried out in coordination with relevant authorities.

Police have urged the public not to publish or further circulate the video, or any information that could identify the child, on social media. They noted that sharing such content could compromise the child’s dignity and cause further psychological harm.
