Shahid calls for urgent assistance to families affected by heavy rains

Former Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has called on relevant government authorities to expedite assistance to families affected by the ongoing southwest monsoon rains battering the Maldives.

Heavy rainfall has caused significant flooding across the country, with Addu City — particularly Feydhoo — being among the worst hit, as floodwaters entered numerous homes and caused widespread damage. Expressing concern over the situation, Shahid said state institutions must act without delay to provide swift relief to citizens who have been left in distress.

Shahid also extended his prayers to all affected families, expressing hope that they would soon recover from their losses and return to normal life, by the will of Allah.

With the weather deteriorating across the country, flooding has damaged homes and property on many islands. Security services and local councils are reportedly working together to deliver assistance to those affected.
