Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that, if he returns to power, he will investigate the case of Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adhurey) purchasing two flats from the Rehendhi-6 housing project.

Speaking at a gathering held last night at the PNF front office, Yameen said he knows the truth about how Adhurey obtained the money to buy the two flats, and that it was not money earned from selling tin sheets. He alleged that the flats were given to Adhurey by a prominent Malé businessman in exchange for helping that businessman secure a large plot of land in Hulhumalé by using Yameen’s name.

“There is no doubt — this is not a matter that can be brushed aside,” Yameen said.

He further alleged that during the time President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu served as Mayor of Malé, the city’s fish-cutting area was also handed over to Adhurey at a below-market price, which he described as another act of corruption.

According to Adhurey’s financial disclosure, he purchased the Rehendhi flat in 2017 for 4.5 million rufiyaa. The disclosure states that the funds came from his personal savings and assistance received from well-wishers.
