No matter how hard former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom tries to dissolve the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), he does not know any “magic spell” that could make such an effort succeed, Speaker of Parliament and PNC Chairperson Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adhurey) has said.
Speaking at a PNC jagaha rally last night, Adhurey said the party’s leadership stands firmly behind President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu with complete sincerity and loyalty, and that Yameen would not be able to shake that unity.
Directing criticism at Yameen, Adhurey said the fact that Yameen can no longer bring himself to place the title “President” before the name of the popularly elected head of state exposes the jealousy in his heart. He added that the title of President is not a name reserved for any particular individual.
Adhurey characterised the end of Yameen’s presidency as the result of arrogance, haughtiness, disobedience, failure to uphold justice, and betrayal of the state treasury. He further said that former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed and former minister Mohamed Maleeh Jamal, who now appear on Yameen’s podiums, are not people of sincerity.
Speaking about the growth of PNC, Adhurey noted that when President Muizzu assumed office, the party had only 3,022 members. However, because the President has been governing by listening to the people and acting according to their wishes, that number has today risen to 77,000.
