Former Attorney General Aishath Azima Shakoor has been appointed as Principal Secretary of the President’s Office and reported for duty today.
Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) confirmed her appointment. Before taking up the post, Azima had been working as the President’s personal legal counsel, and had recently represented him in two cases.
Azima contested the 2023 Malé City Mayoral election on a PNC ticket but was unsuccessful. Charges previously brought against her — for facilitating money laundering and for providing false information to an official body — have since been withdrawn by the current government.
