Speaking at a PNC rally held in Ukulhas, A.A. Atoll, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that if the opposition were acting responsibly, it would be presenting better alternatives to what the government is doing. However, he claimed that the current opposition in the Maldives shows no sense of responsibility or sincerity, and accused them of working to disrupt the country’s stability.
“We all need to open our eyes on this matter, use our own minds, and analyse the things being said and done,” the President said.
Noting that records of how various past governments handled matters are available for all to see, the President said the public must remember what happened to the country economically and socially over the past 10 to 15 years. He said lessons must be drawn from those experiences and applied when making decisions going forward.
Addressing young people in particular, the President said it is important for them to look at how things unfolded in the past and use their own judgement. He urged elders and older members of society to guide the youth and share with them what has happened in the country’s recent history, describing this as a responsibility every individual must fulfil for the sake of national unity and progress.
The President further stated that his administration has done away with the spirit of political vengeance, and that no political leader faces any obstacles under this government. He assured that everything is being carried out within the bounds of the law. “This government will never take the lead in any act of political revenge, of the kind seen in the past,” he said.
According to the President, his administration inherited a country with a broken economy, a torn social fabric, and stalled development projects. However, significant work is now underway to correct these issues, he said, calling on citizens to set aside political biases and move forward with a national mindset.
