MDP Chairperson and former President Mohamed Nasheed has said it is important that the decisions of the Elections Commission (EC) are made in a transparent and fair manner.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting between the party’s senior officials and the President of the EC, Nasheed said the meeting emphasized the importance of the commission conducting its affairs in a way that maintains public trust. He said the party believes that transparent and fair principles must be followed, particularly when making decisions related to elections and political parties.

In addition, Nasheed said he shared with commission members various concerns the MDP faces as a political party. However, he did not disclose details of those concerns.

Apart from the MDP, the EC also held a meeting today with the Maldives National Party (MNP). The EC said the main purpose of these meetings is to understand the difficulties facing political parties and to further strengthen the relationship between the parties and the commission. The commission also gave assurances that it would work to resolve the concerns raised by the parties.
