Family Court conducted 227 marriages and 137 divorces in December

Statistics from cases submitted to Malé’s Family Court during December reveal that the number of marriages performed that month exceeded the number of divorces.

According to statistics released by the Family Court today, the court conducted 227 marriages during December. In contrast, 137 divorces were granted during the same period. Regarding divorce cases, 163 new cases were submitted to the court in December, and a total of 176 cases were concluded that month, including previously submitted cases. However, records show that 173 divorce-related cases remained pending at the court at month’s end. This includes 186 cases that have been under review since November.

Looking at the types of divorce cases filed, the majority are cases filed by women seeking divorce. Accordingly, 79 cases were filed by women seeking divorce, while 35 cases were filed by husbands seeking to divorce their wives. Additionally, 47 cases were filed to confirm divorce, and 2 cases were filed due to doubts about divorce.

In addition to marriage cases, the court also handled important cases related to children. Among these, 6 custody cases were submitted in December, with 19 cases remaining from November still under review. Four cases were filed requesting determination of which party the child should reside with, of which 2 cases were concluded. Fourteen cases of this type are still ongoing in court. Similarly, one complaint case regarding non-payment of child support was filed last month, while 3 previously filed cases of this type were concluded.
