The Democrats have opened the opportunity for their members to contest on the party’s ticket in the Local Council Elections and Women’s Development Committee Elections, scheduled to be held on April 4th. In an announcement issued today, The Democrats stated that the party’s Interim Committee, in collaboration with the Elections Commission (EC), is fully prepared to provide necessary information to members and handle the required administrative tasks for the election.
The opportunity for members interested in contesting on behalf of The Democrats to submit their forms is open until the 31st of this month. The party has disclosed that if more than one candidate applies for the same seat, a primary will be held to determine who will be awarded the party ticket.
The Elections Commission has also now officially opened the opportunity to contest in this election. Candidacy forms must be submitted exclusively through an online portal. Through this portal, forms can be submitted by candidates contesting through political parties as well as those contesting as independent candidates. However, independent candidates are required to verify the support of 50 individuals through the portal to confirm their backing.
The final deadline for interested parties to submit candidacy forms is 12:00 AM on the night of February 1st. The Elections Commission has instructed that all submitted documents, whether for party tickets or independent candidacy, must be complete.
