The High Court has scheduled an appeal hearing for Sunday regarding the case of one million dollars deposited into former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s account, following a long hiatus. While a hearing has been scheduled, changes have now been made to the bench of judges presiding over the case.
The change to the bench occurred because the judge previously presiding over the case, Judge Hussain Shaheed, was appointed as a Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, in Sunday’s hearing, Judge Abdulla Jameel Moosa will sit on the bench in place of Judge Shaheed.
This ongoing case in the High Court is an appeal stemming from a matter submitted to the Civil Court by President Yameen regarding the withholding of the one million dollars deposited into his account, which was not released to him even after the expiration of the escrow agreement signed with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
While it has been a long time since proceedings were paused, the last hearing for this case was held at the High Court in February of last year.
