In the final moments before the primary to determine the candidate who will contest for Mayor of Malé on the MDP ticket in the Local Council Elections, former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s wife, Fazna Ahmed, has revealed her support for current Mayor Adam Azim.

While the excitement for tomorrow’s election has intensified, the rivalry—particularly between Adam Azim and Ali Azim—has become extremely high. Politically speaking, although President Solih has not officially announced support for a specific candidate, it is believed Adam Azim is running with his full backing, while former President Mohamed Nasheed and key figures behind the formation of The Democrats are active in Ali Azim’s campaign.

Amidst this intense competition, Fazna Ahmed revealed her decision to vote for Adam Azim in a Facebook post regarding Galolhu City Park. She stated she supports Adam Azim because he is a goal-oriented person who delivers practical results. As an example, Fazna highlighted the effective methods Azim used to solve the flooding issue on Malé’s roads. She noted that when she worked at Thaajuddeen School and met with officials to find a solution for flooding, many spoke of major projects like raising roads, but Adam Azim solved it starting with the most basic matters. She highlighted practical steps such as regularly cleaning drains and using appropriate equipment to pump out water.

While the primary rivalry between Adam Azim and Ali Azim has grown immensely, and President Nasheed has been openly supporting Ali Azim, President Solih has not openly supported any party until now. However, all of Solih’s family members are supporting and campaigning for Adam Azim. With President Solih’s wife supporting Adam Azim at the last minute, it is now accepted that the President has clearly indicated the candidate he supports. Many also describe this as the final weapon used to defeat Nasheed in this election.

Voting for this election is scheduled to proceed tomorrow from 14:00 to 20:00. As strong figures compete for the post of Malé City Mayor, it is believed that Madam Fazna’s revelation will add further momentum to Adam Azim’s campaign.
