The Elections Commission (EC) has stated that 315 complaints have been received regarding the voter list for the Local Council Elections and Women’s Development Committee Elections scheduled to be held on April 4th. While 294,937 people are eligible to vote in this election, the EC will publish details of the complaints received on the 18th of this month.
In this election, registration is now open for people with visual impairments to use templates that will enable them to vote independently without assistance from others. Registration can be done by calling 1414 before 10:00 PM on February 23rd, or during designated times at specified locations. This is a system introduced since 2023 to provide accessible voting opportunities for people with disabilities.
Regarding election arrangements, a total of 621 polling stations have been decided to be established throughout the Maldives and abroad (Sri Lanka and Malaysia). This includes 321 stations in the atolls, 240 stations in the Malé area, as well as stations at resorts, industrial workplaces, and prisons. In this election, 626 councilors for island councils from 225 constituencies and 52 councilors for city councils are scheduled to be elected.
