Adhaalath Party Calls on Nasheed to Repent and Apologize to the People

The Adhaalath Party has called on former President Mohamed Nasheed to repent and seek forgiveness from the people. Adhaalath has condemned remarks made by Nasheed regarding the unavailability of items sold in resorts in inhabited islands, calling it an injustice.

In a statement issued by Adhaalath, it was stated that pork and alcohol sold in resorts are items that have been prohibited by evidence from the Quran. The statement said that modern science and human research also clearly show that these are substances that pave the way for immoral acts and wrongdoing.

The statement noted that while such items have been sold to tourists in the Maldives’ resorts for a long time, this cannot be used as justification to normalize such wrongdoings in islands where ordinary citizens live. Adhaalath emphasized that promoting and advocating for such items is prohibited (haram) under Islamic Shariah.

“The remarks made by President Nasheed that encourage such practices in inhabited islands are not acceptable in any way. We call on him to refrain from repeating such statements, to repent from this, and to seek forgiveness from the Maldivian people,” the Adhaalath statement said. Adhaalath has also called on all Maldivians to work together to protect the Islamic faith and Islamic culture of the Maldives.
