A 19-year-old has been ordered detained for five days by the Criminal Court today for climbing onto the roof of a building connected to the Saudi Arabian Embassy and taking photos. Social media reports indicated that two young adults and a 17-year-old boy were arrested in this incident that occurred on Tuesday.
The court order stated that evidence has been presented to the extent that the offense is suspected. This includes witness statements, statements from police who were active at the scene, CCTV footage, and police intelligence reports. In court, the young man said that when he climbed to that location, he didn’t know it was the Saudi Embassy and didn’t see any such sign. He said he climbed there after seeing other people taking photos and videos from that location previously.
However, he told the court that while he was on the roof, when people stared at him, he sensed it wasn’t the right thing to do and came down within 10 minutes. He said he had never done anything like this before and apologized for this action. The court order noted that he has no record of detention or arrest, but nevertheless imposed a five-day detention.
