Police charge 11 over MPL cigarette container theft

 

Police sent a case to the Prosecutor General’s Office on the 3rd of this month, requesting prosecution of 11 people arrested in connection with the theft of a cigarette container stored at MPL port.

Two of the Maldives’ prominent businessmen involved in this case – Lotus owner Ahmed Arif (Aattey) and Apollo Holdings owner Mohamed Waheed (Dhigali) – were released from detention today. However, seven people remain in detention, including MIFCO General Manager Muaz Ali, a senior Customs official Zivaru Ismail, and three MPL employees.

The PG Office said the case will be submitted to court within the legal timeframe. It has also been revealed that two MPL employees arrested in this case have confessed to the crime.
