The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has published a list of parties who have failed to pay their taxes, with former Football Association of Maldives (FAM) president Bassam Adeel Jaleel among those named. Bassam is currently serving a prison sentence after being convicted of embezzlement in a case involving the purchase of an apartment at Amin Avenue using FAM funds.

The list, which includes a total of 33 parties, also features Business Image Group — owned by Hassan Ismail, who served as Communications Secretary at the President’s Office under the previous administration — as well as popular comedian Yoosuf Rafeeu (Yoosay) and Schwack Maldives, the company that operates Schwack Cinema. Cheebo Investments and Beverage Triple, the company behind Labamba Café, are also on the list.

According to MIRA, each of the parties named on the list owes more than one million rufiyaa in unpaid taxes. However, the authority has not disclosed the specific amount owed by each individual party.
