President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is proudly recognized as an economic expert, PNC Chairperson and Speaker of the People’s Majlis Abdul Raheem Abdulla has said.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the PNC Congress held last night, Abdul Raheem said that when President Muizzu assumed office, the opposition claimed the state would go bankrupt within three months and he would be forced to abandon his presidency. However, as the government approaches three years in power, it has repaid over 900 million dollars in debt, and yesterday paid off another 50 million dollars, thereby rescuing the Maldives from debt.

Abdul Raheem said that economic experts are not people who simply sit in their living rooms and produce results by talking. Rather, true economic experts are those who apply economic thinking and experience to their work and deliver results that are convincing to others.

He also said that the PNC Congress is being concluded with a proud victory, and that the end of the Congress marks the beginning of the party’s presidential campaign.

Notably, the current government has now fully repaid the 200 million dollar debt taken through SBI during the Solih administration, along with the 524.68 million dollar sukuk and the 400 million dollar currency swap facility from India.
