Former Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has departed for Vaavu Atoll as part of his campaign for the MDP presidential primary. According to Shahid’s campaign team, the first stop on today’s trip will be V. Rakeedhoo. He will then travel on to Thinadhoo, Felidhoo, and Keyodhoo. Tomorrow, he is scheduled to visit Fulidhoo before returning to Malé in the evening.

Speaking as he set off, Shahid said, “Travelling to Vaavu Atoll to seek votes is always a joy.” Shahid began his campaign in the northern region with a rally in Kulhudhuffushi. Upon announcing his candidacy in the presidential primary from Addu City, Shahid resigned from his position as MDP President.

Shahid will be challenged in the primary by the party’s former Chairperson, Fayyaz Ismail. In a show of support for Fayyaz, former President Nasheed has stated that he will not contest the primary. Fayyaz held a campaign rally in Malé last night, which was also attended by former President Nasheed.
