Home Minister Ali Ihusaan has said that by providing the police institution with the infrastructure and resources it needs, along with specialized training, the institution will transform into one that delivers the compassionate and capable service the public expects.

Speaking to state media after a fellowship walk held today to mark 22 years since the Maldives Police Service began operating as a civilian institution, the Minister thanked officers for the demanding round-the-clock work they do to protect people’s lives and property.

According to the Minister, when this administration took office only 17 police stations across the atolls were operating from purpose-built police premises, but police services have now been established on every inhabited island. He said that despite infrastructure challenges, major work is underway to build up resources and infrastructure, driven by the initiative of the President and the police leadership.

More than 1,000 people — including officers of various ranks and civilian staff — took part in the walk in the Malé area alone, with parallel events held across the atolls.
