Police believe car hit child after motorcycle crash

Police have said that nine-year-old Ziva Sinan Ahmed, who died in an accident in Hulhumalé Phase 2 on Saturday night, is believed to have been killed either when a car traveling in the same lane struck her as she fell from a motorcycle, or when the car ran over her body.

Regarding the accident, which occurred around 9:04 PM near Vinares Tower 7 on Hithigasmagu, police said that as a driver was attempting to get into a car parked on one side of the road, a motorcycle overtaking that car struck him, and the motorcycle then fell into the right-hand lane. As the car traveling in that lane did not have time to brake suddenly, it is believed to have hit the child. Forensic tests are being conducted to confirm this, police said.

While the three vehicles involved in the accident have been towed, the driver of the parked car was operating the vehicle while his license had been previously suspended, so police have fined him and taken action against him.
