Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced that it carried out ballistic missile strikes on “Camp Titin,” a US Marine base located in Jordan, disregarding the stern warnings issued by US President Donald Trump.

According to the IRGC, the attack was carried out in retaliation for a US strike last Tuesday on a wedding ceremony held in the southern Iranian city of Sirik, which killed four people, including a child. While Iran claimed the strike caused significant damage to US troops and military assets, the Jordanian military stated that 10 of the 13 missiles launched were intercepted mid-air, and the remaining three fell on empty ground. Jordan also stated that no one was injured.

In response to the attack, Trump warned via Fox News that Iran would be “wiped out.” Trump has been repeatedly issuing such warnings since the war began this past February. The US State Department has also urged American citizens in the Middle East to remain vigilant.

As the US tightens economic sanctions and blockades Iranian ports, Iran has been asserting control over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy route. Due to this tension, crude oil prices on the global market have risen by more than four percent, and domestic petrol prices in the US have surged significantly.
