Shahid meets youth to discuss nation’s future

MDP President Abdulla Shahid met with a group of young people last night and exchanged views on the current situation in the Maldives.

In a post on X after the meeting, Shahid said he had exchanged views with the youth about the political landscape, the consequences arising from government policies, and the current state of the Maldives.

“A nation progresses by listening to its youth,” Shahid said. He also said last night’s discussion demonstrated that young people possess the thinking and mindset to change the situation, as well as the skills to get things done using modern tools.

Shahid held this meeting at a time when rumors have been circulating that he is preparing to contest the MDP presidential primary, which will be held to select the party’s candidate for the 2028 presidential election.

So far, the only person to have officially announced they will contest that primary is the party’s former Chairperson, Fayyaz Ismail. In addition, Faisal Naseem, who served as Vice President in former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s government, has also expressed interest in contesting the primary.
