In a study conducted by luxury villa holiday specialist CV Villas, Dhigurah’s sandbank was given an estimated value of MVR 2.9 billion (USD 187.6 million), placing it 8th on the list. Ranked behind Dhigurah are the famous Seven Mile Beach in the Cayman Islands and Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The study estimated the value of the world’s most famous beaches by treating them as private plots of land that could be purchased for individual ownership. Dhigurah was the only site from the Maldives to feature in the world’s 15 most expensive beaches.
Famous for its long white sandbank and whale sharks, Dhigurah is a popular destination for guesthouse tourism, diving, and water sports. For these reasons, Dhigurah is currently one of the most notable destinations in the Maldives among foreign tourists.
Topping CV Villas’ ranking is Siesta Beach in Florida, with an estimated value of USD 1.2 billion. Second place goes to Pampelonne Beach in France at USD 971 million, and third place goes to Praia da Falésia in Portugal at USD 660 million.
