During one of the MDP’s ongoing series of protests, a group of individuals entered a demonstration held in Malé on Friday night and attacked Malé City Mayor Adam Aazim.
As protesters were marching along Boduraskefaanu Magu near the Galolhu Cemetery, two individuals suddenly pushed through the crowd. One of them shoved the Mayor and attempted to knock him to the ground, but before any further assault could occur, protesters managed to restrain both individuals. Shortly after, police also arrived at the scene and began taking action.
In response to the incident, Mayor Aazim stated that he would not be intimidated by such cowardly acts from the government, and that he would remain firm in his efforts to hold the government accountable.
The MDP has been carrying out these protests with 12 demands, calling for the country to be put back on the right track. Participants have been marching with placards bearing written messages, loudly calling for President Muizzu’s resignation. They have also been pointing to the government’s 30% vote share in the referendum held on the 4th of this month as evidence that the public has lost confidence in the government.
