According to the latest statistics published by the Tourism Ministry, last January was one of the most successful months in Maldives tourism history over the past decade. The statistics show that a record number of tourists visited the Maldives in January this year.
The Ministry’s statistics indicate that a total of 224,788 tourists visited the Maldives in the first month of this year. This represents a 4.6 percent increase compared to the 214,863 tourists who visited in January 2025. This is a positive indicator showing the growth of Maldives tourism.
Looking at the past 10 years of statistics, the number of visiting tourists has been increasing year after year. While 125,336 tourists visited in January 2017, this number has risen to over two hundred thousand this year. However, it should be noted that in 2021, this number dropped to 92,103 due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. Nevertheless, starting from 2022, the industry has slowly begun to recover.
Although the number of tourists visiting the Maldives has increased, the longest average stay was recorded in 2021. That year, tourists spent an average of 9.2 days in the Maldives, which is believed to be due to strict travel regulations, quarantine requirements, and travel difficulties related to COVID-19. With this year starting strong, it is hoped that Maldives tourism will continue to expand further in the future.
