The lottery drawing for plots has begun today following changes made to the land area designated for plot allocation in Giravarufalhu. This activity, organized by the Housing Ministry, is being held at the Social Center.
The lottery has been arranged so that each plot recipient can attend. According to the Ministry, plot numbers will be sent via SMS immediately after the draw. Giravarufalhu will allocate plots of various sizes, including 2,605 plots of 1,250 square feet and 1,213 plots of 1,650 square feet. Additionally, 253 plots of 2,050 square feet and one plot of 2,450 square feet will be allocated.
While administrative work on the plots progresses, land reclamation work at Giravarufalhu has also resumed at full pace. After an interruption, work restarted yesterday using the “Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger Oranje,” one of the large dredgers brought to the Maldives. This vessel has a capacity to dredge 22,000 cubic meters at once. So far, 12 hectares in the first phase, 18 hectares in the second phase, and 26 hectares from the third phase have been reclaimed. An additional 113 hectares are planned to be reclaimed.
After the lottery stage is complete, the Housing Ministry says details about plot registration and signing agreements will be shared at a later date. The Ministry has assured that land handover to plot recipients can proceed once reclamation work is finished.
