Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that current Mayor Adam Azim’s selection as the MDP candidate for Male’ City Mayor in the upcoming Local Council Election signifies the party members’ acceptance of his service. Adam Azim secured the ticket in the primary held today by defeating the former Member of Parliament for Central Henveiru, Ali Azim.

Congratulating Azim in a post on ‘X’, President Solih highlighted that the primary results demonstrate that MDP members value the work Azim has done for the people of Male’ while serving as Mayor. Furthermore, noting that Azim would have met many citizens and heard their sentiments and aspirations during the campaign, Solih urged him to work towards bringing those proposals to life if he succeeds in the election.

Adam Azim was first elected as the Mayor of Male’ by winning the by-election held on January 22nd of last year. On that occasion, he won against current Councilor Mohamed Saif Fatih, former Attorney General Aishath Azima Shakoor, and former Police Commissioner Hussain Waheed. Azim, who also served as the CEO of MTCC during the MDP administration, currently holds the position of MDP Male’ Constituency President as well.

The Elections Commission has scheduled the Local Council Elections and the Women’s Development Committee Elections to be held on April 4th of this year.
