The Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development has decided to open the opportunity to apply for land plots and flats under the government’s “Housing for All” policy next Sunday (January 18, 2026). Although originally scheduled to open today, the date was changed to facilitate better information dissemination to the public and to manage the high traffic expected on the portal; the portal is now scheduled to open on Sunday morning at 09:00.
Under this scheme, 15,000 land plots are arranged to be issued including the Greater Male’ Area and Ras Male’, along with 7,900 flats from the Male’ area. Among the changes brought to the regulations based on public feedback, opportunities have been included for those who previously received 1 or 2-room flats to apply for 3-room flats, as well as special categories for taxi drivers, fishermen, and those in the tourism sector. Additionally, specific quotas have been allocated for native Male’ residents and residents from other islands living in Male’.
Eligibility for this scheme is limited to those who have lived in Male’ for 15 years. Applications must be submitted online via the “Hiyaavehi Portal.” The deadline for form submission is until the 14th of next April.
