Male’ area records 67 accidents in past week

Police statistics reveal that 67 accidents occurred in the Male’ area, including the bridge, within the past week alone, amidst escalating traffic issues. According to the weekly statistics now released by the police, Male’ accounts for the majority of last week’s accidents, with 56 of the total incidents occurring within the city.

Regarding the days of the week, the highest number of accidents was reported on Tuesday. While 13 accidents occurred on that day, 12 were reported on the following Wednesday. Notably, the majority of accidents took place during daytime hours. Statistics show that 46 accidents occurred during the day, while 21 occurred at night. In terms of the nature of these incidents, motorcycle-to-motorcycle and motorcycle-to-car collisions were the most frequent. There were 19 accidents in each of these categories, while 6 car-to-car collisions also occurred.

A total of 87 vehicles sustained various degrees of damage in these accidents. Fortunately, out of the 67 accidents that occurred last week, only one resulted in serious injury to a person. No serious injuries were reported in the remaining 66 accidents.

While dangerous accidents have become a common occurrence in the Male’ area, it is noteworthy that some previous incidents have resulted in the loss of life and permanent disabilities. To raise awareness regarding road safety and security, the police have now begun publishing accident statistics on a weekly basis.
