Ali Rasheed (Masveri Alibe), a native of GA. Vilingili notably known for advocating for the rights of Maldivian fishermen, passed away tonight following an illness. Ali Rasheed, of Pink Rose, Vilingili, passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in India, where he was transferred for further care after his condition deteriorated due to a stroke.
Alibe, who served in the fisheries sector for over 12 years, retired from the profession this past March because his health condition did not permit him to continue. Following his retirement from fishing, he had been working at the Road Development Corporation (RDC) since March.
Alibe was a well-known figure for highlighting fishermen’s concerns on social media and other platforms. Although he actively participated in campaigns in Vilingili to bring the current administration to power, he later directed criticism toward the government on social media due to dissatisfaction with policies concerning fishermen. However, it is noted that recently Alibe’s stance had changed, and he had ceased his criticism of the government and President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
