The performance audit report on the Social Health Insurance Scheme released today by the Audit Office has revealed that expenses paid to private hospitals through Aasandha have exceeded three billion rufiyaa over five years. According to the report, between 2019 and 2024, 3.1 billion rufiyaa was spent on private hospitals in the Maldives and abroad, while 779.8 million rufiyaa was spent on clinics.
The report highlights that expenditure on clinics has also been increasing by 18 percent year-on-year. The audit report notes that this issue arises from charging more for services than the rates set by the Aasandha Scheme’s Empanel Committee, and from the lack of adequate internal controls in the portals used for the scheme’s administrative management and in the services master list.
