Former President of the Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has called on Maldivians to renew the memories of those lost in the devastating 2004 tsunami disaster and to maintain the spirit of national unity.
In a message shared on social media today on the occasion of Unity Day, President Solih stated that the solidarity and resilience shown by Maldivians during that terrible crisis was exemplary.
President Solih highlighted the importance of drawing inspiration from the beautiful example of mutual assistance Maldivians demonstrated during that time, and of remaining as a united community in the future. He prayed for those who were martyred in the tsunami disaster and called on the nation to preserve the spirit of perseverance and resilience shown that day.
Twenty-one years have passed since Maldivians faced the devastating tsunami crisis, and Unity Day is a day to renew the memories of that horrific historical incident.
