Judges with misconduct history apply for High Court positions

The Judicial Service Commission has announced that 19 individuals have applied for the two vacant judge positions at the High Court. These are the two positions that became vacant following the retirement of Judge Mohamed Niyaz and the resignation of Judge Mohamed Faisal.

Among those who have applied are former Chief Judge of the High Court Shujau Usman and former High Court Judge Abdur Raouf Ibrahim. Shujau is an individual who resigned before the JSC’s decision to remove him from office was sent to the People’s Majlis, after a conduct case was proven against him for allegedly campaigning in the 2018 presidential election. Raouf also resigned before being removed from office.

In addition, the 19 individuals who have applied for this position include former Criminal Court Judge Ibrahim Ali, who was found guilty of a conduct violation, former Chief Magistrate of K. Atoll Judicial District Mohamed Raagib Ahmed, and former Chief Magistrate of HDh. Kulhudhuffushi Magistrate Court Ali Adam.
