Former MDP President and former Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed and MDP Advisor and former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met this morning at the MDP office.

This is the first time the two have met following the political differences that arose during the 2023 presidential election. After Nasheed left the MDP in 2023 and founded The Democrats, its members rejoined the MDP last June.

Speaking to journalists about today’s meeting, President Solih said that moving forward together is more important than talking about what happened in the past. He also said that after the upcoming local council elections, both of them will work together in MDP activities. Speaking to journalists, Nasheed said that after reconciling the differences between them, they are confident they can move forward together. Both also stated that they see no reason why they cannot work together with President Yameen to hold this government accountable. As one reason, Nasheed said that he had previously worked with President Maumoon, and therefore he sees no reason why he cannot work with President Yameen.
